January, 2024
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in January.
- Migration (3/01/2024)
- Delayed by December festivities but worth the wait.
- Hilarious with relatable moments; Kumail Nanjiani’s performance shines.
- Dream Scenario (7/01/2024):
- Nicolas Cage’s return impresses after a long hiatus.
- Unique and intriguing concept with a blend of comedy and dark elements.
- Slightly confusing but ends abruptly; overall, a decent watch.
- Dunki (11/01/2024):
- Unusual for me to watch Hindi films, but watched with Andrea and her family.
- Explores immigration visas and the struggles of illegal immigration.
- Despite language barrier, found it decent compared to other Hindi films. No offense intended.
- The Beekeeper (20/01/2024)
- Finally! Been waiting to watch this since last year! Jason Statham is my favourite actor and this movie is action packed. The Beekeeper is a gripping action thriller for most part, with a fresh narrative of vengeance.
- Watched this movie in IMAX at South City Mall. I also had some good lunch today, Infact ordered different things from three places. A Subway sandwich, a Flurys Pineapple Cube and Darjeeling Tea and Taco Bell fries. Bought a nice We Bare Bears Phone Stand from Miniso and a soft toy. Today was also the 16th birthday of South City Mall, I had more fun than anyone else at South City! 😂
February, 2024
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in February.
I started February by watching two movies on the same day on the 2nd. Argylle and Next Goal Wins – both amazing and fun films to watch! I again watched two movies on the same day on 16th. We do this too often, because we’re busy during the week.
- Argylle (02/02/2024)
- The film was really funny and comedic.
- This film has some of the best unexpected plot twists! The unpredictable nature of the storyline keeps you on edge.
- Loved the concept of the movie. Very unique!
- Spoiler alert: Argylle’s mid-credit scene confirms a crossover with Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman franchise.
- Next Goal Wins (02/02/2024):
- Next Goal Wins had me laughing continuously!
- It offers a glimpse into Samoan culture, showcasing a community overflowing with joy, warmth, and positivity. They’re really amazing people.
- The film reminds you that true victory comes not just from winning, but from the strength, perseverance, and happiness found along the way.
- It’s a truly inspiring movie. Not to forget, it’s based on a true story.
- Dune: Part One (10/02/2024)
- With Dune: Part Two set for release in March, I wanted to refresh my memory on the storyline of Dune: Part One.
- Dune: Part One offers a visually stunning and thought-provoking glimpse into a complex and captivating world. While the story remains incomplete, it effectively sets the stage for the epic saga to continue.
- Land of Bad (16/02/2024)
- I love action films. I love war movies. I used to watch a lot of action films when I was a kid. So, when I saw the poster for Land of Bad at INOX and noticed that it had Russell Crowe in it, I knew I had to watch it.
- It has a very generic storyline, with the rescue operation of a high-value individual going south. The Delta Force team finds itself in enemy territory, and their only hope of survival is the eyes in the sky, drone pilot Russell Crowe. It’s a good watch.
- Madame Web (16/02/2024)
- I don’t know where to start. This is worse than Morbius. It’s terrible. It seems like Marvel just wants to mint money at this point, producing any garbage like this one.
- The storyline is alright. It could have been a great film if the story were scripted better. The direction and VFX of the film are just pathetic.
- The worst part is there’s a voice-over for the villain throughout the movie; it’s not even his actual voice.
March, 2024
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in March.
I started March by watching the most anticpiated sci-fi movie: Dune: Part Two.
- Dune: Part Two (03/03/2024 and again on the 10/03/2024)
- I planned to watch this on the 4th of March, as all seats at IMAX were booked, but things turned out differently. On Sunday, I had gone to South City Mall for lunch and shopping and while I was on a call Andrea pointed out some great, center seats were available for Dune: Part Two, in IMAX. I told her to just book it fast. There was just 7 minutes left for the movie to start.
- Dune: Part Two is amazing. This adaptation honors the spirit of the novels, particularly with the increased depth given to the characters. The film builds on the first one, setting the stage for a grand continuation in Dune: Part Three.
- Update: Watched it again in Screen X at INOX, because it’s amazing!
- Kung Fun Panda 4 (15/03/2024)
- The King Fu Panda series is amazing as usual. Loved every bit of it. Loved how the older characters were brought back from the Spirit Realm.
- I enjoyed every bit of Jack Black’s version of Britney Spears – Hit Me Baby One More Time
- Arthur The King (24/03/2024)
- A lovely movie by Mark Wahlberg. This is a must watch for every dog lover.
- Arthur the King is based on the remarkable true story of Mikael Lindnord and a stray dog named Arthur as they go on an adventure race in the Dominican Republic.
- Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (29/03/2024)
- I was expecting so much more from this movie. A bigger villain than the Skar King.
- It was alright VFX wise, story wise it was alright too. Wasn’t a bad movie. It could have been much more.
- Knox Goes Away (29/03/2024)
- Diagnosed with a rapidly evolving form of dementia, a contract killer gets the chance to redeem himself by saving the life of his estranged son.
- A lovely film acted, directed and produced by Michale Keaton. Loved it. To top things off, Al Pacino also plays a role in this movie.
April
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in April.
- The First Omen (05/04/2024)
- One of the most pathetic horror films I’ve seen. There was nothing horror about it. Pure garbage storyline, which really had no relevance whatsoever.
- Things portrayed about Christianity in this movie is purely fictional, stupid, false. Save your time and money.
- One Life (07/04/2024)
- I did not expect much from this movie, i thought it would be a boring documentary but it was amazing and brough tears. Went to watch this with Andrea and Anirban after making sudden plans at 12:00 AM – totally worth it.
- Based on a true story: London broker Nicholas “Nicky” Winton helps rescue hundreds of predominantly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia in a race against time before the Nazi occupation closes the borders. Fifty years later, he’s still haunted by the fate of those he wasn’t able to bring to safety.
- Civil War (19/04/2024)
- I love war movies and had to watch this. It’s not the best but it exceeded my expectations.
- It’s about the life of journalists during a Civil War in the United States. There’s a division, both sides are fighting. Most do not know why. It’s an interesting concept. Gives you something to think about. Worth watching.
- Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (27/04/2024)
- This movie was a treat for myself by myself. I had a long day – had given a keynote about “Understanding Websites & Building Your Own” at the Kolkata WordPress Meetup. It was during the heatwave. There was nothing much to do outside. Once I was done, we had lunch at Kareem’s and came for the movie. I was with Anirban, Andrea and a friend from the Meetup event. Kervin joined later.
- The movie was really well made, it was fun to watch and loved the storyline. It was fun to watch Kumail Nanjiani – he’s filled with comedy (he plays Dinesh on the sitcom – Silicon Valley). Crazy seeing Mckenna Grace who plays Paige on Young Sheldon all grown up.
- Overall, amazing movie. A great watch, something you can watch again and again with family.
May
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in May.
- Fall Guy (05/05/2024)
- I had been waiting for this movie since last year! I love action films, you probably know this by now.
- Fall Guy is about the lives lived by stunt doubles. They’re the unsung heroes who go unnoticed. They’re in every movie but you never see them.
- Amazing movie by Ryan Gosling, he’s moving away from his Ken phase in Barbie. This was a refreshing movie.
- It’s got everything in it, action, comedy, romance, emotions. Loved it!
- Watched this with my friend Francis, who we reconnected with after 5 years. Good day with good food, movies and a lot of shopping!
- The Garfield Movie (22/06/2024)
- I love Garfield. I kind of relate to Garfield and being a cat.
- Very funny, relatable and heart warming movie.
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (24/06/2024)
- The aesthetics of the movie and the direction has a cyberpunk feel. It has purposeful comical direction.
- Funny to see Chris Hemsworth as the villain.
- Overall, a good watch. Living to the standards of Mad Max
June
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in June.
- Bad Boys: Ride or Die (14/06/2024)
- Funny! Super, super funny and action packed!
- Loved seeing this duo back in action.
- Inside Out 2 (16/06/2024)
- I loved the concept of the movie, I did not get time to watch the first part, but even without watching it, it makes sense. Loved every bit of it. Very relatable and heart warming.
- The Exorcism (22/06/2024)
- Not sure what they were trying to do here with this movie, it’s pathetic.
- The only good thing about it is Russel Crowe but he’s not being featured in any good movies recently, the last being Land of Bad.
July
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in July.
- Fly Me To The Moon (21/07/2024)
- Loved the concept of the movie.
- It is filled with comedy and twists, not a very serious film. Altogether a good watch. Frank Sinatra would be happy.
- Twisters 2024 (25/07/2024)
- This serves as a sequel to the Twisters 1996 version, with possibilities of it becoming a franchise with a future story.
- Had to see this because I love storms, storm chasing and Glen Powell (Hangman from Top Gun: Maverick 😎)
- Deadpool & Wolverine (26/07/2024)
- After back to back flops from Marvel, this one is the one we needed!
- Where can I start? This is the Multiverse of Mayhem. There’s so many Easter eggs and cameos!
- Deadpool and Wolverine banters and bromance make this a must watch!
- It’s Deadpool! What else can I say? It’s amazing! ❤️🖤💛
August
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in August.
- Alien: Romulus (26/08/2024)
- Fun to see the Alien franchise still creating new movies every now and then. Although this is not as captivating than the other ones, it’s just alright.
- Covers the basic Alien vs Predator format. Quite a little horror elements. Just a one time watch, I would say.
September
Super busy month, also no movies. I did miss watching Transformers One.
October
Here’s the movies I’ve covered so far in October.
- Joker: Folie à Deux (06/10/2024)
- I realise this movie got a ton of negative reviews and is rated 4.3, but that is because the general public do not understand movies. This movie exceeds expectations in every way, it is a more realistic take on the Joker, a villain. His story, his mental health and trauma, much more. It is deep, it is dark, it is real. Worth the watch.
- The Wild Robot (21/10/2024)
- A very nice movie about a robot that was washed ashore and then ended up in the wild. It adapted itself in the wild and started protecting the creatures.
- Very emotional and I would not want to spoil this one for you.
- Venom: The Last Dance (26/10/2024)
- This has got to be the best venom movie till date, it is so emotional.
- Can’t wait to see what happens next.
November
Super busy month, also no good movies.
