Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger experience another major outage.
Isn’t it scary? An hour ago, I attempted to log in to Facebook and feared I had been hacked when I found myself signed out. I couldn’t receive OTP codes or reset my password. When I attempted to reset my password, I was warned that my account would be permanently disabled due to abusive behavior, despite my inactivity in posting or commenting. I initially suspected someone had maliciously reported me.
The issue persisted when I tried logging in from other devices. When I attempted to access my Instagram account, all my accounts were abruptly logged out. This realization left me extremely anxious. Even my girlfriend experienced the same issue when attempting to log in. It dawned on me that this might be a widespread outage, as indicated by the surge of hashtags like #facebookdown and #instagramdown on Twitter.
This outage isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a significant problem. Consider the potential loss of data and the halt it brings to businesses reliant on social media platforms. Many small businesses depend on these platforms daily. The stakes are high. We risk losing years of data, memories, and media, all at the mercy of tech giants. If they decide to monetize their platforms or suspend accounts, the consequences are dire. Nothing is truly free; everything comes with a price.
This is why I advocate for the importance of having a personal website or blog. In today’s world, owning and controlling your data is crucial. You need a reliable backup system that’s 100% yours, independent of social media giants. You shouldn’t have to worry about losing years of data or letting your business go offline.
I firmly believe in having your own piece of the internet, your digital real estate, completely owned by you. That’s why I’m passionate about building websites and making web design accessible through Pixelvise. Your website and blog are the way forward.
