Experience at Nakhoda Masjid & Zakaria Street During Ramadan 2023

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims all over the world. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn till dusk, abstaining from food, water, and other physical needs. However, the most significant part of Ramadan is Iftar, the breaking of the fast at sunset. This is a time when family and friends come together to enjoy a meal and celebrate the blessings of the month.

One afternoon, my friend Souvik Dutta and I decided to visit Zakaria Street in Kolkata to experience the Iftar celebrations there. We met at the MG Road Metro Station and made our way to the popular Nakhoda Masjid. As we entered the mosque, we were greeted by a large number of people who were breaking their fast and praying namaz. The atmosphere was charged with energy and devotion, and it was a humbling experience to be a part of it.

After covering the inside, we stepped outside and found the streets were crowded with stalls selling food. There were long lines outside shops selling biryanis, kebabs, sweets, and other delicacies. People of all ages and backgrounds were eagerly waiting to break their fast and taste the delicious food. It was heartwarming to see the diversity and secularism of the city as Bengalis were also enjoying the festival with their Muslim brethren.

We decided to try some of the delicacies, and the food was simply amazing. The biryanis were aromatic and flavourful, the kebabs were juicy and tender, and the sweets were melt-in-the-mouth delicious. We enjoyed our meal while seated on the street and observing the festivities around us. It was a joyous experience to be a part of the celebrations and to witness the spirit of unity and togetherness.

The Iftar celebrations at Zakaria Street Kolkata were a memorable experience. The energy and devotion displayed by the people, the delicious food, and the unity among people of different faiths and backgrounds made it a remarkable experience. It was a celebration of diversity, secularism, and above all, humanity. I will always cherish this experience and look forward to attending the festivities again next year.

The narrative of the celebration of Ramadan and highlighting it as a secular event along with the mention of mouth-watering iftar dishes is quite relishing. I am a foodie myself and will be hoping to visit Zakaria Street very soon.
