An Egg-cellent Easter

Easter, 2024: As Catholics, we only have a few festivals throughout the year, namely Easter and Christmas. After New Year’s, Easter becomes the next most anticipated festival.

The mercury in Kolkata has been soaring during this time, reaching 37 to 39 degrees Celsius with the RealFeel reading 45 degrees. We’ve been experiencing intense heatwaves.

I’ve added Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” and Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” to my summer playlist—two songs I can’t get enough of this season. 😂

But let’s get back to the point. Easter wouldn’t be complete without Good Friday. The day began with hot cross buns from Saldanha’s. Good Friday is marked by visits to seven churches and vegetarian meals, although in this heat, touring seven churches isn’t high on my agenda. Nonetheless, I enjoyed some delicious vegetarian dishes. I also learned something new—on Good Friday, it’s customary to avoid warm-blooded animals, making fish, like tuna, acceptable. So, for dinner, I indulged in my favorite Tuna Sandwich from Subway.

Easter morning began with a church service at St. Teresa Church and a family get together at Nana’s house

Later, we made a trip to West Side to shop for clothes for Andrea.

For Easter lunch, my mum prepared Prawn Pulao, a dish I’ve been craving for a long time, along with chicken curry. We also indulged in pastries from both Mio Amore and an Easter Bunny Pastry from Kookie Jar. Afterward, we opened our Easter Baskets—I’ve always loved Easter Baskets. My mum got one for me, and I got one for Andrea as well.

After a brief rest, Andrea and I ventured out to Gariahat, stopping for coffee at Wise Owl. Frankly, I’m not sure why people love this place—the coffee is terrible, and they take over 30 minutes to prepare a simple latte. Save your time and money—go to Starbucks. Additionally, it took them another 15 minutes to bring us the bill, despite not being crowded.

Later, we returned to Andrea’s home, thinking the day was over, but my parents invited us for dinner at Tung Fong. So, we headed to Tung Fong for dinner, our favorite Chinese restaurant.

Easter celebrations extended into Andrea’s mother belated birthday party as it fell on Good Friday. We celebrated with dinner at Tung Fong—apparently, they love this place too now.

It was truly a fantastic weekend.
